Japan will provide Bangladesh five patrol vessels

Japan has announced its decision to provide Bangladesh with five patrol vessels, which will enhance the country’s coastal protection capabilities.
This development was disclosed during a courtesy meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Saida Shinichi, and Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.
The ambassador also expressed Japan’s willingness to sign an agreement to supply equipment for air pollution monitoring in Bangladesh. During the discussions, he reaffirmed Japan’s strong support for Bangladesh’s interim government and highlighted the importance of upcoming high-level visits, including a Parliamentary Vice Minister level visit.
The ambassador expressed satisfaction with the ongoing negotiations of an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the two nations and mentioned that the Chief of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is scheduled to visit Bangladesh in March. Foreign Adviser Hossain thanked Japan for its substantial support and acknowledged its role as Bangladesh’s largest bilateral development partner.
He also appreciated Japan’s humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees and sought support for an upcoming conference on the Rohingya crisis in Doha. Both sides discussed enhancing bilateral collaboration and mutual support in international election matters, with hopes for further strengthening Bangladesh-Japan relations during Hossain’s tenure.
