In February, migrant workers sent $2.16 billion back home, marking a remarkable 39% increase from the previous year, as per data from Bangladesh Bank (BB).
This February’s remittance figure stands as the highest in the past eight months, with July of the previous year being the last peak.
Last June, the country saw $2.19 billion in remittance inflow, as indicated by BB data.
In 2023, a significant rise in Bangladeshi migrants going abroad for jobs was recorded, reaching 1.3 million, up from the previous year’s 1.14 million.
The leap year’s addition of an extra day in February likely contributed to the surge in remittance inflow, further boosting the figures.
