The aviation market of Bangladesh has experienced significant growth, nearly doubling over the past decade, with expectations of tripling in size over the next 15 years, according to M Mahbub Ali, the State Minister for Civil Aviation. 

Speaking at the inauguration of the newly constructed terminal building at Jashore Airport, the minister attributed the sector’s expansion to the government’s policy support.

Crediting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s directives, Mahbub Ali, emphasized infrastructural development, technical and human skills enhancement, and timely law and policy formulation in driving the industry’s rapid progress. The government’s vision is to establish Bangladesh as one of the world’s aviation hubs, and the minister expressed commitment to transforming the country’s aviation industry into a smart and modern one, aligning with the prime minister’s leadership.

Ensuring passengers’ safety and comfort remains a top priority for all airports in the country, with significant efforts dedicated to enhancing the quality and safety of passenger services. 

Jashore Airport, formerly an airfield during World War-II and subsequently launched as a domestic airport in 1960, has witnessed extensive development in the past 14 years. 

With the inauguration of the new terminal building, passengers will now have access to advanced and modern air services, expected to facilitate the growth of the region’s tourism industry and other economic activities.

The new terminal, constructed under the Tk 32 crore project of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), boasts eight check-in counters, five luggage scanning machines, five archways, a VIP lounge, and a spacious car parking area. 

The upgraded facility will handle up to 1 million passengers annually, further supporting the growing aviation sector in Bangladesh.
