Bangladesh’s garment exports to the United States grew year-on-year in 2024, marking a recovery after two years of decline as easing inflationary pressures boosted apparel sales in the American market.
According to data from the US Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA), exports rose by 0.75% last year, reaching $7.34 billion. This follows a period of decline caused by the economic fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.
In recent months, Bangladesh’s garment sector, the country’s largest export industry, demonstrated resilience, returning to positive growth in December. Export volume increased by 4.86%, though unit prices fell by 3.94%, impacting profitability.
The US imported $77.92 billion worth of apparel last year, reflecting a 1.71% increase. China remained the top supplier, with exports growing by 0.79% to $16.50 billion.
