Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) sector is eyeing a substantial boost in exports to Iraq (BGMEA) and seeks assistance from the Iraqi embassy.

During a recent meeting at the embassy in Baghdad, Faruque Hassan, along with a BGMEA delegation, engaged with Ambassador Fazlul Bari. In this interaction, Faruque shared insights into the current state of Bangladesh’s garment industry, its ambitious vision, and strategies for sustainable growth.

Faruque expressed optimism that the embassy’s diplomatic efforts would uncover valuable trade avenues for Bangladesh within Iraq’s market. He emphasized that diversifying products and exploring new markets are fundamental to BGMEA’s strategy to achieve its ambitious target of $100 billion in RMG exports by 2030.

Urging Ambassador Bari to spotlight Bangladesh’s apparel industry and its potential, Faruque suggested showcasing success stories to high-ranking Iraqi government officials and stakeholders.

Faruque thanked Ambassador Bari and his team for facilitating essential meetings between the BGMEA delegation, Iraqi government ministers, and trade associations. These meetings aim to foster bilateral trade and investment.

Ambassador Bari assured the BGMEA delegation of continued support from the embassy in capitalizing on opportunities within the Iraqi market.

The BGMEA delegation, comprising notable figures like Nazrul Islam, Mohammed Shohel, Mohd Shawket Hossain, and Nisher Khan, has strategically visited promising markets as part of their ‘apparel diplomacy’ initiative. This initiative seeks to elevate Bangladesh’s RMG sector and enhance the country’s brand reputation.
