The government has approved the creation of a national taskforce led by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida) to develop Bangladesh’s semiconductor industry.

The 13-member task force aims to boost expertise in chip design, testing, and assembly, leveraging Bangladesh’s strategic Asia-Pacific position, competitive labor costs, and skilled workforce, as stated in a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Office.

“Bangladesh’s position in the Asia-Pacific supply chain and its young talent pool make it a key player for global semiconductor growth,” said Ashik Chowdhury, Bida’s executive chairman.

The taskforce will address policy gaps, recommend incentives, and identify immediate investment opportunities. Actionable outcomes are expected by the end of January.

Prominent members include Mohammed Enayetur Rahman, CEO of Ulka Semi; Istak Ahmmed, chairman of Prime Silicon Technology (BD) Ltd; Prof Dr ABM Harun-ur-Rashid of BUET; Maj Gen Md Nasim Parvez of MIST; and global specialist Mustafiz Choudhury from Silicon Valley.

Nahian Rahman Rochi of Bida will be the member secretary, coordinating efforts to ensure timely progress.
