The Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS), the central debating organization of the University of Chittagong, has successfully organized the “YPSA-CUDS Divisionals 2025” with support from Young Power in Social Action (YPSA).
The prestigious divisional competition concluded on Saturday, September 13, after two days of intense debating at the office of the Daily Azadi in Chattogram.
In the final round, Noakhali Science and Technology University secured the championship title, while Feni University finished as the runner-up. The tournament, held in the Bangla Parliamentary style using the tab format, brought together 18 prominent university debate clubs from across the Chattogram division.
The adjudication process was led by a panel of 18 national adjudicators and 10 invited judges. Additionally, young debaters from various parts of Bangladesh participated in the adjudication process, gaining practical experience in evaluation and judgment.
Several debaters distinguished themselves during the tournament. Jahin Al Jamil, Labib Rahman, Adil Raihan, and Tawsif Ahmed were named “Debaters of the Tournament” for their outstanding performances.
The closing ceremony was attended by Professor S. M. Nasrul Kadir, Vice Chancellor of Premier University, who served as the chief guest. Advisors and moderators of CUDS were also present as special guests, lending support to the event’s conclusion.
A group of sponsors supported the competition. YPSA served as the title sponsor, Kurmure partnered as the snacks sponsor, Star Ship Mango as the beverage partner, and Nestlé as the refreshment partner.
This year’s debating festival was convened by Afifa Nowrin Samiha, Campus Affairs Secretary of CUDS, with joint conveners Wasif Ar Rahman, Finance Secretary; Ratul Sheikh, Joint Secretary; and Sifatur Rahman, Office and Logistics Secretary.
Vice-President Aheli Azman and convener Afifa Nowrin Samiha jointly conducted the event.
The “YPSA-CUDS Divisionals 2025” once again reinforced the role of debating in fostering critical thinking and intellectual engagement among university students in Bangladesh, while highlighting the collaborative efforts of academic institutions and youth organizations in promoting dialogue and leadership.
