Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed will present the national budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year on Monday, June 2, marking the first budget under the interim government formed after the mass public uprising on August 5.
According to a government handout, the budget speech will be pre-recorded and broadcast at 4:00 PM on Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar. All private TV and radio stations have been requested to air the speech simultaneously using BTV’s feed.
Sources told The Financial Express that the upcoming budget has been set at Tk 7.9 trillion, Tk 70 billion lower than the previous fiscal year’s allocation.
Officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Planning Commission said the reduced expenditure is intended to meet International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions, cut back on non-essential development projects, and tackle persistent inflation.
The government is announcing the budget earlier than usual due to the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, scheduled from June 5 to 14. Traditionally, the budget is presented on a Thursday, followed by a post-budget press conference on Friday.
