Ford Motor is recalling almost half a million vehicles in the United States due to a brake fluid leak that could increase the risk of crashes, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said.
The regulator warned that a ruptured hose in the brake system could cause fluid to leak, lengthening stopping distances. Ford stated that it has not received reports of any accidents or injuries associated with the defect.
The recall covers the Ford Edge SUV from model years 2015 to 2018, as well as the Lincoln MKX luxury crossover from 2016 to 2018. The NHTSA estimates that about 1% of the recalled vehicles contain the fault.
In addition, Ford announced two smaller recalls. More than 213,000 vehicles are being recalled over malfunctioning tail lights, while another 100,900 vehicles face recall due to the possibility of airbags tearing when deployed.
The latest recalls come as US regulators intensify oversight of automotive safety and manufacturers step up efforts to address defects before they lead to incidents.
