Google denies reports of major Gmail security breach

Google has rejected claims of a large-scale security breach affecting Gmail, insisting the platform remains secure.
In a blog post on Monday, the company said recent reports suggesting it had issued a broad security alert to all users were “entirely false”. It added that Gmail’s defences remain “strong and effective”, blocking more than 99.9% of spam, phishing attempts, and malware.
The company acknowledged that online scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, but stated that it continues to invest in advanced security tools to protect its users.
The denial comes amid growing concern over digital fraud. A survey conducted in June 2025 by Google and Morning Consult found that more than 60% of U.S. consumers had noticed an increase in scams over the past year, with one in three reporting a data breach.
To help users guard against cyber threats, Google encouraged the use of tools such as passkeys and its Password Manager, which can identify compromised credentials.
Despite the rumours, Google stressed there had been no widespread Gmail breach and urged users to seek information from reliable sources rather than unverified reports circulating online.
