Meta urged to combat misinformation in Bangladesh

The chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), Md Mohiuddin Ahmed, has urged Meta to take stronger actions against rumors and misinformation on its platform.
Ahmed conveyed this message during a meeting with a delegation from Meta at the BTRC office in Dhaka’s Agargaon.
The Meta team, including Arianne Jimenez, Nayan Tara, and Rujan Sarwar, briefed Ahmed on their activities in Bangladesh.
They expressed appreciation for the positive relationship between Meta and BTRC.
Given the significant number of internet users in Bangladesh, Ahmed stressed the need for urgent measures to combat misinformation and prevent criminal activities such as fraud and gambling.
He called upon Meta to conduct awareness campaigns on safe online practices and improve digital literacy among Bangladeshis.
