Meta Platforms has halted hiring in its artificial intelligence division after recruiting more than 50 researchers and engineers, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing company sources.
A Meta spokesperson confirmed the pause, describing it as part of routine organisational planning.
“All that’s happening here is some basic organisational planning: creating a solid structure for our new superintelligence efforts after bringing people on board and undertaking yearly budgeting and planning exercises,” the company said in an emailed statement to Reuters on Wednesday.
The move comes as major tech firms ramp up investment in AI research while balancing costs tied to large-scale recruitment and infrastructure.
