Meta Platforms is set to cut 5% of its workforce this year, affecting around 3,600 employees, according to Bloomberg News.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg informed staff in an internal note that the move aims to “raise the bar on performance management” by swiftly removing low-performing employees. The company plans to hire new workers to replace them.
Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, employs approximately 72,000 people. The layoffs will begin in the US on February 10, with affected employees in other countries to be notified later.
Meta declined to comment but confirmed the accuracy of Bloomberg’s report.
