The National Board of Revenue (NBR) recorded strong growth in July, the first month of the 2025-26 fiscal year, though collections fell short of the target.
According to NBR data, revenue rose 24.33% year-on-year to Tk 272.49 billion, up from Tk 219.16 billion in July 2024. However, the figure was Tk 28.62 billion below the month’s target of Tk 301.11 billion.
Breaking down the collection, the Customs Wing brought in Tk 96.02 billion, marking 17.52% growth. The VAT Wing collected Tk 113.52 billion, the highest among the three, with a robust 32.45% increase.
The Income Tax Wing generated Tk 62.95 billion, up 21.65% from a year earlier.
Despite the shortfall against targets, officials described the double-digit growth as encouraging given recent challenges in revenue mobilisation.
The NBR has been tasked with raising an additional Tk 400 billion this fiscal year under IMF conditions, requiring stronger tax administration and policy measures.
