The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has introduced a new digital system designed to streamline the process of filing income tax returns through authorized representatives.
The platform, known as the Tax Representative Management System (TRMS), was inaugurated on Sunday at the NBR Multipurpose Hall by Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Finance Adviser. Officials described the system as a step toward making tax administration more transparent, efficient, and user-friendly.
Developed by a team of NBR income tax officials and IT specialists, TRMS is designed to digitise the taxpayer representation process. Under the new system, authorised representatives—appointed in line with the Income Tax Act—will be able to submit income tax returns online after registering themselves on the platform.
Taxpayers who wish to appoint a representative must authorise them using a one-time password (OTP) sent to their biometric-registered mobile phones. Once authorised, all returns filed by the representative will be stored under their profile in TRMS, allowing easy access and retrieval of information at any time.
NBR officials highlighted several key features of the software, including:
Digital registration of authorised representatives.
Online authorisation of representatives by taxpayers through OTP verification.
Centralised storage of all returns filed on behalf of taxpayers.
Enhanced transparency in e-return submission.
Simplified interface for both taxpayers and representatives.
NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan chaired the event. Among the special guests were Advocate Ramiz Uddin Ahmed, President of the Bangladesh Tax Lawyers’ Association (BTLA); Mahtab Uddin, President of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB); Md Rokonuzzaman, Vice President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB); and M Nasimul Hai, President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB).
