Bangladesh’s plastic industry recorded robust export growth in the first eight months of the fiscal year 2024-25, driven by increasing global demand, product diversification, and enhanced production capacity.
According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), plastic product exports surged by 21.25 percent from July to February in FY25, reaching $203.63 million—up from $166.59 million during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Industry leaders attribute this rise to a shift in global sourcing patterns as major international buyers look beyond China for alternatives.
According to the Geneva Environment Network, the global plastics market, valued at $712 billion in 2023, is expected to exceed $1,050 billion by 2033. This growth presents significant opportunities for Bangladeshi exporters looking to expand their reach.
Key areas for export growth include toys, bags and sacks, household items, engineering products, and electronic and electrical goods. He emphasized that the sector had experienced double-digit growth in recent years, driven by rising demand from both traditional and emerging markets.
