Pran, one of Bangladesh’s leading food processors and exporters, is targeting up to $2m in orders at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2025, which is underway in Kuala Lumpur.
The company is the sole Bangladeshi participant at the event, organised by Malaysia’s trade promotion agency Matrade. MIHAS, running from 17–20 September, has drawn more than 2,400 exhibitors from 80 countries, featuring halal-certified food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and lifestyle products.
Pran has previously secured spot orders worth up to $1m at the expo. This year, it is promoting ready-to-cook items, juices, noodles, biscuits, and spices, all certified halal by Malaysia’s Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM).
Officials say MIHAS offers a gateway for the company to expand into new markets across Asean, South Asia and Europe, tapping into the $3tn global halal economy.
Malaysia has become one of Pran’s most lucrative export destinations. In the last fiscal year, the company earned around Tk 750 crore from food and beverage sales in the country.
Pran’s distributor in Malaysia, Piaclae Foods, has expanded the brand’s reach from urban supermarkets into rural markets over the past 14 years. Executives say consumer trust has grown steadily, with Bangladeshi products competing successfully against established international brands.
With a presence in 148 countries, Pran now views Malaysia as a launchpad for expansion into neighbouring halal markets such as Indonesia and Brunei.
