Robi Axiata reported a 140% year-on-year jump in profits for the April–June quarter of 2025, despite a slight fall in revenue due to reduced sales and distribution expenses.
According to its half-yearly financial disclosures, the company posted a profit of Tk 2.57 billion in Q2, up from Tk 107 crore in the same period last year. Meanwhile, revenue declined by nearly 2% to around Tk 26 billion.
The company attributed the profit surge to a 31% cut in sales and distribution costs during the quarter. Acting CEO and Chief Financial Officer M Riyaaz Rasheed said the performance marked a substantial recovery for Robi. “We are highly encouraged to see Robi bouncing back to winning ways at the end of the second quarter of 2025,” he said in a statement.
Robi also reported a net foreign exchange gain of approximately Tk 2 crore for the quarter, compared to a loss of Tk 470 million in the same period of 2024.
The subscriber base continued to expand, with 10 lakh new customers joining in Q2, taking the total to 57.4 million. Data subscribers rose to 44.1 million following the addition of 1.6 million users, and 4G users increased by 1.7 million to reach 38.5 million.
As of the end of June, 77% of Robi’s customers were using data services and 67% were 4G users—both the highest proportions in the industry, according to the company.
Rasheed, however, cautioned against rising market concentration, warning that it may counteract the benefits of telecom sector reforms.
