Bangladesh’s overall inflation rate experienced a minor decline in June, decreasing by 0.17 percentage points to 9.72% from May’s 9.89%, according to data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). 

The food inflation rate saw a slight reduction, easing to 10.42% in June from 10.76% in May. Non-food inflation also experienced a modest decrease, falling to 9.15% from 9.19% during the same period. These figures indicate a balanced reduction in both food and non-food prices, contributing to the overall decline in inflation.

Inflation in rural areas followed a similar trend. The overall inflation rate in villages dropped by 0.18 percentage points to 9.81% in June. This is a significant indicator as rural areas often face more acute inflationary pressures, impacting a large portion of the population.

Urban areas also witnessed a decline in inflation. The overall inflation rate in cities decreased by 0.14 percentage points to 9.58% in June. Within urban settings, food inflation fell to 10.54%, and non-food inflation dropped to 8.98%.

The slight easing of inflation rates in rural and urban areas provides some respite to consumers grappling with high prices for essential goods and services. The decline in food inflation is particularly noteworthy, as food costs constitute a significant portion of household expenses, especially for low and middle-income families.
