On International Youth Day, the Swedish embassy in Dhaka, Swisscontact, and Team Group sealed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) focusing on educating young workers in Bangladesh about high-end garment production.

The agreement highlights green skilling in ready-made garments (RMG).

Industry aiming for sustainable practices and skill enhancement, particularly for women, while aligning with global sustainability norms.

The MoU, marking this year’s theme, ‘Green Skilling for Youth in the Garment Sector’, was commemorated with Swisscontact’s (Progress) project.

This project aims to promote green growth in the RMG industry through skills development. It will partner with Team Group’s platinum-rated green garment factory, 4A Dyeing Ltd, in Dhaka. The objective is to prepare workers to create garments while adhering to green compliance standards.

The primary objective of this collaboration is to elevate skills and productivity, with a specific focus on empowering women in the RMG sector.

The agreement also underscores the commitment to implementing impactful environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives in line with sustainable business practices.

It is anticipated to be a milestone in advancing green skilling and industry-based training (IBT) in the RMG sector of Bangladesh.

The program, initiated in October 2022, aims to enhance job stability, increase earnings through improved skills, and create better working conditions.

It also boosts productivity, ensures environmental and social compliance, and consequently improves workplace environments.

The signing ceremony saw the presence of dignitaries, highlighting the significance accorded to this collaboration by the Swisscontact and Team Group.

This partnership signifies a collective endeavor to align the country’s garment industry with global sustainability standards.
