Import and export activities at the Hili land port in Dinajpur were suspended on Tuesday as Bangladesh observed the national holiday marking July Uprising Day.
All trading operations at the port, including cross-border import and export, were halted for the day to commemorate the anniversary of the historic mass movement, according to a report by BSS.
Ferdous Rahman, president of the Hili C&F Agents Association, confirmed the suspension, saying, “Tuesday, August 5, has been declared a government holiday in observance of July Uprising Day. All import-export operations at the land port are closed for the day.” He added that trade will resume on Wednesday morning.
Despite the pause in trade, cross-border movement of passport-holding travellers remained unaffected. Officer-in-Charge of the Hili Immigration Checkpost, Ariful Islam, said immigration services at the port continued operating as usual, allowing passengers to travel without interruption.
The temporary suspension of trade is a routine measure on national holidays and is expected to have minimal impact on overall commercial activity, officials said.
