Bangladesh Bank has announced a new schedule for transactions under its Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system, the central bank’s instant interbank payment mechanism, effective from 5 October.
According to a circular issued by the Payment Systems Department on Sunday, RTGS services will be available on all working days except weekends and public holidays.
Under the revised timetable:
Customer transactions: 10 am to 5 pm
Customer transactions via online platforms (internet banking, mobile apps, corporate solutions): 4 pm to 5 pm only
Foreign currency transactions: 10 am to 4 pm
Interbank fund transfers: 10 am to 5:15 pm
Foreign currency interbank transfers: 10 am to 4:30 pm
The central bank said the adjustments aim to improve customer service and ensure faster, more efficient settlement of transactions. Banks and financial institutions have been directed to prepare their systems accordingly.
The RTGS system enables the secure and immediate transfer of high-value funds between banks, widely used by both public and private sector entities for critical financial operations.
