Bangladesh has not received any official communication from India regarding reported import restrictions on several categories of Bangladeshi goods via land ports, Commerce Adviser SK Bashir Uddin said on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, the adviser acknowledged media reports and social media claims suggesting India has imposed new curbs on imports from Bangladesh, particularly processed foods and garments, through border points such as Akhaura and Dawki.
“We haven’t officially been informed of India’s actions yet. However, based on available information, it appears that certain decisions have been made regarding land ports,” he said.
The adviser confirmed that government agencies are currently assessing the situation. “We are analysing the issue and will decide on the appropriate course of action if and when the restriction is officially confirmed,” he added.
The remarks came a day after India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued a notification introducing new restrictions on importing garments, agro-processed foods, and other items from Bangladesh through land ports.
