Biman Bangladesh Airlines has launched precautionary technical inspections of its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, following the recent crash of an Air India aircraft in India that killed at least 270 people.
The Air India Boeing 787-8, bound for London, went down shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on Thursday. The cause remains under investigation.
In response, Biman’s Engineering Division is conducting in-depth checks of critical systems on all six of its Dreamliners—four 787- 8s and two 787- 9s. These include assessments of the engine fuel system, electronic engine control, electrical power, hydraulics, air conditioning, and flight control systems.
Power assurance checks on the engines are also underway, according to a statement from ABM Raoshan Kabir, Biman’s general manager for public relations.
The airline said it would be ready to implement any safety directives from Boeing once findings from the Air India crash were released.
Biman highlighted that its aircraft are maintained under a CAAB-approved maintenance programme that is aligned with Boeing’s standards. Tasks are performed by type-rated engineers, who sign off each procedure before final verification by the quality assurance team.
The airline also uses real-time aircraft and engine health monitoring systems, which enable the early detection of faults through its Maintenance Control Centre.
Biman’s initiative underscores a proactive stance on aviation safety amid global concerns over Dreamliner operations.
