Committee to probe irregularities in energy sector

The White Paper Preparation Committee, led by Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, will investigate irregularities and corruption in the energy and power sector during the immediate past government’s tenure.
Dr. Bhattacharya, also a distinguished Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) fellow, announced on Tuesday after the committee’s second meeting in the capital.
The committee, formed to scrutinize various sectors, may review agreements with foreign entities if necessary. Its focus includes macroeconomics, the energy sector, health, education, banking, tax administration, capital flight, and large-scale projects.
The committee will gather and critically verify information from multiple sources, comparing it to global best practices. The committee aims to complete its preliminary work within two months before finalizing the white paper.
