The Election Board overseeing the upcoming polls of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has set September 7, 2025, as the date for electing new leadership for the 2025–27 term.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the FBCCI announced the full election schedule, marking the beginning of a formal transition process for the apex trade body, which is currently under the oversight of the current interim government.
According to the schedule, the names of nominated directors representing both the chamber and association groups must be submitted to the FBCCI’s General Council by July 2. A preliminary voter list will be published on July 18, followed by the final list on August 26.
The board will release the initial list of candidates for key positions—including president, senior vice president, vice presidents, and directors—on August 8. The final list will be announced on August 14. The official results, including the names of the newly elected office bearers, are expected to be declared on August 16.
This election cycle comes with notable changes. The government has reduced the number of FBCCI directors from 80 to 46 in a move aimed at streamlining governance and enhancing decision-making efficiency.
The current election process is being conducted under the stewardship of Md Hafizur Rahman, a member of the Bangladesh Competition Commission and former additional secretary, who was appointed FBCCI administrator in September 2024 after the fall of the previous Awami League government.
The elected directors will later vote to appoint the FBCCI president, one senior vice president, and two vice presidents from among themselves.
