Taiwan’s Foxconn and US chipmaker Nvidia are in discussions to deploy humanoid robots at a new manufacturing site in Houston, where Foxconn will produce Nvidia’s latest AI servers, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
If finalised, the move would mark the first use of humanoid robots in manufacturing Nvidia products and be a first for Foxconn’s AI server production. The Houston facility is expected to begin operations in early 2026, with the robots in place by the first quarter of the year.
The sources said the robots could handle tasks such as object placement, cable insertion, and assembly, based on internal Foxconn presentations. However, details about the exact type, design, or number of robots remain unclear.
Foxconn is developing its own humanoid models in partnership with Nvidia and has tested robots made by China’s UBTech. Two variants—one bipedal and another using a wheeled base for cost efficiency—are expected to be unveiled in November.
One source described the Houston plant as well-suited for robotic deployment due to its size and layout.
Nvidia and Foxconn declined to comment. The sources requested anonymity due to a lack of authorization to speak publicly.
Nvidia announced plans in April to build AI server factories in Texas, in collaboration with Foxconn and Wistron. For Nvidia, which already supplies platforms for humanoid robot makers, this initiative signals a deeper move into automation.
Globally, manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Tesla are also exploring humanoid applications on factory floors.
