Govt approves LNG, fertiliser, and oil

The government on Tuesday approved multiple procurement proposals, including imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG), fertilisers, and rice-bran oil, to meet domestic needs.
The approvals were made during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, held at the Bangladesh Secretariat and chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.
As part of the decisions, Petrobangla will import one LNG cargo from South Korea’s POSCO International Corporation at a cost of Tk 6.08 billion, scheduled for use in mid-July.
The Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) received clearance to import 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from UAE-based Fertiglobe Distribution Limited for Tk 1.38 billion, or $377.50 per tonne.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will import 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from MA’ADEN, Saudi Arabia, at a cost of Tk 3.46 billion, or $709 per tonne.
The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has been permitted to purchase 4.5 million litres of refined rice-bran oil from Majumder Bran Oil Mills Limited, Jashore, for Tk 717 million at Tk 159.50 per litre.
The meeting also approved 14 additional proposals, including five from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, four from the Road Transport and Highways Division, two from the Ministry of Railways, one each from the Internal Resources Division and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
