Huawei and its partners showcased the widespread adoption of RedCap technology at the Global Mobile Broadband Forum (MBBF) 2023. 

This advancement represents a significant milestone in the RedCap industry. 

Over 10 carriers from seven countries are conducting commercial RedCap trials, aiming to surpass 100 million RedCap connections in the coming three years. 

This surge in connections will establish a robust groundwork for digital connectivity, facilitating the evolution of novel 5G applications.

RedCap, categorized in 3GPP Release 17 as a lightweight 5G technology, offers a balanced cost-to-performance ratio for various sectors like manufacturing, electric power, home broadband, vehicle-to-everything (V2X), and smart wearables. 

The MBBF brought together industry stakeholders—global carriers, industry clients, device and module vendors—to deliberate on RedCap’s network deployment, ecosystem, applications, and future trajectory. 

Several significant RedCap achievements were unveiled at the 5G Industry Summit. Huawei, in collaboration with major Chinese telecom companies, has implemented end-to-end RedCap deployment in more than 10 cities, spanning industries like manufacturing, electric power, and V2X. Concurrently, leading global carriers in the Middle East and Asia have completed technical validations or commercial pilots for RedCap.

The RedCap ecosystem, spearheaded by Huawei and partners, showcased over 10 products encompassing RedCap modules, DTUs, and CPEs at the MBBF. More than 50 industry devices are expected to launch by the year-end, hastening RedCap application deployment and connection scaling.

The Global Mobile Broadband Forum 2023 themed ‘Bring 5.5G into Reality,’ hosted by Huawei and its partners, convened in Dubai, UAE, on October 10 and 11.
