Internet prices at the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and International Internet Gateway (IIG) levels in Bangladesh will be slashed by 20% starting 1 July.
Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology, announced during a press conference at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) headquarters in Agargaon. The event was held to mark World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.
“This initiative aims to ensure affordable and high-quality internet for all citizens,” Taiyeb said, adding that reductions at the ISP and IIG levels would lead to lower prices for end-users as well.
He also urged mobile operators to align with the government’s pricing strategy to further expand internet accessibility.
Senior officials, including ICT Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury, Acting Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Md Zahurul Islam, and BTRC Chairman Major General (retd) Md Emdad-Ul-Bari, were present at the briefing.
The move is seen as part of broader efforts to make digital services more accessible and support the country’s push for inclusive digital transformation.
