The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has partially launched the long-awaited National Single Window (NSW) system to streamline Bangladesh’s import and export processes.

Seven of the 19 relevant agencies began using the automated system under the “go-live” phase on Thursday, with full integration of the remaining agencies expected by February 28, 2025.

Through the Bangladesh Single Window (BSW) platform, importers and exporters can now apply online for certifications, licenses, and permits (CLPs), eliminating the need for physical visits to multiple offices.

The system also integrates the Advance Risk Management System (ARMS), which evaluates applicants’ track records before forwarding CLPs to relevant agencies. Developed with World Bank support, the project aims to reduce business costs, prevent customs evasion, and expedite goods clearance at ports.

Currently, 81 of 119 types of CLPs are live, with users already benefiting from the system’s nine operational modules. Once fully implemented, the NSW is expected to simplify trade procedures significantly and boost efficiency in Bangladesh’s international trade.
