Parliament has approved the supplementary budget of Tk 172.99 billion for the fiscal year 2022-23 to address the increased expenditures in various ministries and divisions. 

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal presented the supplementary and national budgets on June 1.

The total budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year was Tk 6.78064 trillion, allocated to 62 ministries and divisions. The supplementary budget increased expenditures by Tk 1.01 trillion in 22 ministries and divisions while reducing expenditures by Tk 423.2449 billion in 40 ministries and divisions. 

Consequently, the budget allocations for these ministries and divisions were reduced by Tk 175.57 billion, bringing the total allocation to Tk 6.60507 trillion.

After a general discussion, the Finance Minister presented the Supplementary Budget in the House on June 6. 

Various ministries, divisions, and institutions requested increased funding for 39 grant demands. Eleven members moved a total of 163 cut motions. 

Discussions focused on cut motions concerning the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Agriculture Ministry, and Water Resources Ministry. However, these motions were rejected by voice votes.

The Agriculture Ministry received the highest allocation of Tk 95.8541 billion, while the Cultural Affairs Ministry received the lowest amount at Tk 247.6 million. 

Notable allocations include Tk 5.0405 billion for the Finance Division Prime, Tk 22.4784 billion for the Planning Commission, Tk 1.1205 billion for the Women and Child Affairs Ministry, Tk 1.1319 billion for the Labour and Employment Ministry, and Tk 18.7651 billion for the Housing and Public Works Ministry. 

Other ministries, such as the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Religious Affairs Ministry, and Youth and Sports Ministry, also received specific funding.
