In the April-June period of 2023, an additional 3,362 bank accounts exceeded Tk 1 crore in deposits, bringing the total to 113,554 such accounts by the end of June, as reported by Bangladesh Bank.
Just three months prior, there were 110,192 accounts surpassing the Tk 10 million threshold.
It’s important to note that these accounts are not exclusively owned by individuals; numerous institutions, in addition to individuals, maintain balances exceeding Tk 10 million in their bank accounts.
A single entity or individual may possess multiple such accounts, including various government institutions and organizations with substantial funds.
By the end of June, these 113,554 accounts held a total of Tk 731,3.32 billion, constituting 43% of the overall deposits within the banking sector.
In contrast, the 110,192 accounts recorded at the close of March accounted for Tk 690,8.77 billion, equivalent to 32.28% of the sector’s total deposits.
