Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has called on international investors to set up businesses in Bangladesh, describing the country as a platform for innovations that can drive global transformation.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025 in Dhaka on Wednesday, Yunus said, “Bangladesh is a country with crazy ideas to change the world. We invite you to change Bangladesh through your business and to change the world.”
The four-day summit, organized by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), is intended to highlight Bangladesh’s investment prospects and recent economic reforms following the July political transition.
Yunus, who chairs the post-revolution caretaker government, said Bangladesh offers fertile ground for purposeful business, where investors can pursue profit alongside social impact. “Making money is happiness. But making others happy is super happiness,” he said.
He urged the global business community to think beyond profit and help create what he called a civilization of “Three Zeros”: zero carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration, and zero unemployment. “It is not the job of governments. It is the function of human beings,” he said.
Recalling Bangladesh’s transformation since independence in 1971 and the famine of 1974, Yunus highlighted the country’s journey from extreme poverty to an emerging investment destination.
The event also featured remarks from UK Trade Envoy Baroness Rosie Winterton, Inditex CEO Oscar García Maceiras, and Apex Footwear Managing Director Syed Nasim Manzur. The summit runs through April 10.
