Alibaba on Monday launched Qwen3.5, a new artificial intelligence model designed to perform complex tasks independently.
The company said the model delivers major improvements in performance and cost compared to its predecessor.
Alibaba said Qwen3.5 is 60% cheaper to use and eight times more efficient at handling large workloads. It also features “visual agentic capabilities,” allowing it to take actions across mobile and desktop applications.
The release comes as Alibaba seeks to expand the user base of its Qwen chatbot app in China, where competition includes ByteDance’s Doubao and DeepSeek. ByteDance recently launched Doubao 2.0.
Alibaba said Qwen3.5 outperformed its earlier version and several U.S. models, including GPT-5.2, Claude Opus 4.5, and Gemini 3 Pro.
The company has recently reported growth in Qwen’s active users following promotional campaigns within the chatbot app.
