Apple removes ICE-tracking apps after Trump administration contact

Apple has taken down several apps that track US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, including the popular ICEBlock, from its App Store following a request from the Trump administration, the company confirmed.
The apps, which alert users to nearby ICE activity, have drawn criticism from US authorities, who argue that such tools could endanger law enforcement officials. The Justice Department said Apple’s decision came after it warned the company that ICEBlock posed “safety risks” for federal agents.
“Based on information we’ve received from law enforcement about the safety risks associated with ICEBlock, we have removed it and similar apps from the App Store,” Apple said in an emailed statement. Fox Business first reported the removal.
Google also removed comparable apps from its Play Store this week for policy violations, though it said it had not been contacted by the Justice Department. ICEBlock, however, had never been available on Google’s platform.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi defended the move, saying, “ICEBlock is designed to put ICE agents at risk just for doing their jobs, and violence against law enforcement is an intolerable red line that cannot be crossed.”
Joshua Aaron, the Texas-based developer of ICEBlock, condemned Apple’s decision, calling it “capitulation to an authoritarian regime” and saying his legal team was weighing options.
Legal scholars have noted that tracking or recording law enforcement in public is largely protected under the US Constitution, provided it does not interfere with official duties.
ICE remains central to former President Trump’s immigration enforcement agenda, which critics say has eroded due process and civil liberties.
