A closing ceremony was held in Sylhet to mark the end of the ninth Rotaplast medical mission in the region.
During the 10-day mission, 54 patients received free reconstructive surgeries. Most were children from the greater Sylhet division. The surgeries addressed cleft lip, cleft palate, facial deformities, and burn injuries.
The mission was partly sponsored by Chevron Bangladesh. It was carried out with support from the Rotary Club of Jalalabad and Sylhet Women’s Medical College Hospital.
More than 24 volunteers from several countries took part. The team included plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, speech specialists, orthodontists, and nurses.
Senior medical professionals, Rotaplast representatives, Rotary leaders, and Chevron officials attended the closing event. The vice-chancellor of Sylhet Medical University, Professor Md Ismail Patwary, was present as chief guest.
Rotaplast International is a nonprofit group based in the United States. It sends medical teams to provide free reconstructive care to children with facial deformities. The organization also works with local doctors and supports training and research.
Chevron Bangladesh began working with Rotaplast in 2013. Joint missions have since been held in Chattogram and Sylhet on several occasions.
Chevron Bangladesh is the country’s largest natural gas producer. It operates three gas fields in the northeast and supplies share of domestic gas.
The company says it supports health and community development through its social investment programs.
