Meta has partnered with performance eyewear brand Oakley to unveil a new line of AI-powered smart glasses aimed at athletes and active consumers.
The Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses were launched on 20 June, marking Meta’s latest push to expand its footprint in the wearable technology market.
The glasses integrate Meta’s voice assistant with sports eyewear design, offering a hands-free experience tailored to outdoor and sporting environments. Equipped with a built-in camera and open-ear speakers, the device allows users to capture 3K resolution video and photos, stream music or podcasts, and issue voice commands, all while on the move.
According to Meta’s official announcement, the glasses are water-resistant with an IPX4 rating and are optimised for daily use in varying conditions. Select models feature Oakley’s proprietary PRIZM lens technology, developed to enhance colour and contrast for improved visibility in dynamic light.
Meta’s voice assistant—Meta AI—adds a layer of real-time interaction. Designed to support sports such as golf, surfing and running, the assistant can provide situational updates and weather forecasts and enable voice-activated media capture, offering athletes and hobbyists a practical tool for performance and content creation.
The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses deliver up to eight hours of active battery life and 19 hours on standby. A portable charging case offers an additional 48 hours of use and can charge the device to 50% in just 20 minutes.
The launch follows the strong market response to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, which have reportedly sold in the millions since their release.
Preorders for the limited-edition Oakley Meta HSTN begin on 11 July, with a retail price of $499. Additional models, starting at $399, are set to roll out later this summer across North America and Europe. Meta plans to expand its availability to markets including Mexico, India, and the UAE by the end of 2025.
