Elon Musk said on Sunday that steps taken by SpaceX to prevent the unauthorised use of its Starlink satellite internet service by Russia appear to be working.
“Looks like the steps we took to stop the unauthorized use of Starlink by Russia have worked. Let us know if more needs to be done,” the SpaceX chief executive said in a post on X.
The comment came after Ukraine raised concerns that Russia was using Starlink terminals to guide long-range attack drones. Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said last week that Kyiv was working closely with SpaceX to prevent Russian forces from exploiting the satellite internet system.
Ukraine’s military continues to rely heavily on Starlink. Tens of thousands of terminals are used for battlefield communications and for piloting certain drone missions.
Starlink has expanded Musk’s geopolitical influence. In 2022, he publicly asserted control over how and where the service could be used by Ukrainian forces fighting Russia.
SpaceX has not disclosed details of the specific measures taken to curb unauthorised use.
