Bangladesh’s information technology export sector was highlighted at an industry event held in Dhaka on Tuesday evening.

The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) organized the BASIS IT Exporters Night 2026 at a city hotel with support from the Business Promotion Council. The event marked nearly three decades of progress in the country’s IT and IT-enabled services exports.

Leading IT exporters, policymakers, entrepreneurs, diplomats, and industry leaders attended the program. Organizers said the event aimed to reflect on past achievements and outline future strategies for global expansion.

BASIS honored the top ten IT and ITES exporting companies for the 2024–25 fiscal year. The award recipients included firms working in software development, artificial intelligence, research and development, fintech, and health technology. Organizers said these companies represent Bangladesh’s growing strength in high-value digital services.

Speakers at the event said BASIS member companies now export software and IT services to more than 104 countries. Around 500 member firms were involved in exports during the last fiscal year, with about 300 active exporters. The United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, and several European and Asian countries remain key markets.

A panel discussion focused on opportunities and challenges in diversifying the economy through IT exports. Panelists stressed the need for closer cooperation between policymakers, the financial sector, and private companies.

Government officials said the IT sector has become a key driver of economic growth. They pointed to incentives, tax benefits, and skills development as major support measures.

Organizers described the event as a milestone for Bangladesh’s IT export journey and a platform for shaping a shared roadmap for the future.
