Textile mills and factories in Bulta, Gawchia, and Araihazar areas of Narayanganj have stopped production due to a severe gas shortage. Gas meters showed zero PSI this morning.
Over the past five days, gas pressure fluctuated between 1 and 5 PSI. Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company officials said the shortage resulted from maintenance at a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
Alternative sources such as CNG, electricity, and solar power are being used, but they are insufficient to maintain full operations.
Titas Gas General Manager Mohammad Saidul Hasan said the FSRU resumed operations this morning and expects supply to improve within 24 hours. Current supply is 1,200 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) against a demand of 1,600 MMCFD.
