A three-day Bangladesh Light Engineering Expo 2026 begins in Dhaka on Monday to boost competitiveness and exports in the country’s light engineering sector.
The expo is being organized by the Bangladesh Engineering Industry Owners Association, or BEIOA. It is supported by the Ministry of Commerce and the World Bank-backed Export Competitiveness for Jobs project. The event is taking place at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed International Convention Centre and will run until February 4.
The exhibition will be open every day from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. More than 50 booths are displaying products made by local companies. These include construction machinery, agricultural equipment, electrical goods, automobile parts and textile and jute machinery components. Dies, molds, and other industrial tools are also on display.
Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate the event as chief guest. Government officials, business leaders, and local and foreign buyers are expected to attend.
The sector employs over 300,000 skilled workers and contributes nearly three percent to national GDP. Local producers meet about half of domestic demand, which is valued at $8.2 billion.
Bangladesh’s share of the global engineering market remains below one percent.
Two seminars are also being held during the expo. They will focus on global competitiveness after Bangladesh’s LDC graduation and the role of research and innovation.
